The profits from each year's Improvement Tournament help pay for continued improvements to the course. Tournaments in recent years helped pay for the concrete cart paths which now serve the entire course, on-course restroom facilities, a vinyl fence around the perimeter of the course, and many other improvements and course additions.

The entrance to the Green Hills Golf Course has been refurbished with new gates, a new sign, a landscaping island, and approximately 1200 feet of perimeter fencing after $15,000 was raised by the annual Course Improvement Tournament held in June. The city contributed an additional $3,000 for the project. The brick pillars that hold the gates were built by Wayne Seifert, an area bricklayer who donated his time; and his son, Toby, who works part-time at the golf course.

Through hotel packages with Chillicothe hotels and the short driving distance from areas such as Kansas City, St. Joseph, Columbia, and Des Moines, Green Hills Golf Course attracts approximately 5,000 visitors to Chillicothe annually.

Large groups from Iowa and Minnesota make annual trips each spring to add a few extra weeks to their golf season.  Over the past four years, the course has averaged over 5,000 out-of-county rounds per year. Over 2,000 of those rounds come from out-of-state. During a normal winter, the Green Hills Golf Course averages 20-40 golfers per weekend from the Des Moines, Iowa, area alone.

Ken Lauhoff of the Friends of the Golf Course organization advises "We see Green Hills Golf Course as not only a valuable asset to the recreational environment of Chillicothe, but also a valuable tourism tool and a tremendous boost to the business community."
